Is Nev He-Man?

Have you been watching The Call Centre? Do you remember He-Man and She-Ra of Masters of The Universe franchise in the 1980s? Well, having watched Nev on the BBC 3 documentary you sort of get the feeling he is a bit like He Man and his alter ego, Prince Adam. Let me explain what I mean ...

My overall impression of Nev and the Call Centre (apart from the fact that I could never work there!) is of an 18-30s style office, filled with high jinks, hare-brained schemes, off the wall characters, not to mention Nev’s unorthodox management style and the very large team. But how does that fit with He-Man?
Well He-man had a passion for freedom, a love of adventure and a free spirit – that seems to describe the ethos of Nev’s Call Centre quite well doesn't it? And He-Man’s alter ego Prince Adam really could be Nev with his youthful naiveté and shallow fun loving attitude to life.
So where does She-Ra come in? Well I guess she would be the Genies at Genie Heights. We are a slightly more mature team (with an age range of 30-65’s I have to play this on the safe side!). We like to have fun, but without taking it too far, so our suggestions tend to be slightly more workable than Strictly Come Prancing! We are a smaller, close knit team full of worldly experience and we are probably more rounded characters than some in The Call Centre.
She-Ra was not just known for her strength, speed and agility but also for her empathy, understanding and had healing powers. She showed cunning and wit, preferring to outsmart her adversaries. I would say that we certainly have empathy and understanding within our team. And I know that personally I have found healing from working with the other Genies. In terms of cunning and wit, well sometimes we have to be very clever to get through awkward situations on the phones on behalf of our clients.
Let’s bring this back to reality. The Call Centre is a TV documentary, designed to make good viewing. Over the years it has been proved that the more outrageous and polarising it is, the higher the viewings. It has clearly been edited to increase the “nutty” elements and who knows how many months of filming was involved beforehand?
Nor do we really know how much the programme reflect the ideas of the producers rather than the call centre. I would suspect, from what I know having worked in large scale redundancies, that there was a lot more communication and paperwork involved in the redundancy and disciplinary processes than was shown on the television. I also suspect that had this been filmed for BBC1 or BBC2 prime time viewing, the resulting edit would have looked very different.
