The Genie Decathlon

Jenny celebrates her 10 months ...

Posted on: 23/07/2012   By: Jenny Eaton

They say time flies when you are having fun - and it's certainly sped past here at Genie Towers. So much so that I missed my review of life as a Genie at the 9 months mark. I couldn't believe it when I sat down to write it and Jacqui pointed out that I'd actually been here for 10 months ...

10 months and 10 activities ... I do feel like a decathlete sometimes

10 months and 10 activities ... I do feel like a decathlete sometimes

So here I am pondering what my life is like as a Genie. I think I spoke in a very early blog about the diverse clients that we look after and the variety in the tasks that make up my day. Things haven't changed all that much, though I seem to have moved away from the telephone answering side of the business.

I spend much more of my time these days either providing dedicated PA support to a number of our clients or working on marketing for The Office Genie itself. This has meant I have been lucky enough in recent months to attend some great training courses, which I am looking forward to putting into action in the months ahead.

Working as a PA varies wildly between our clients, so in celebration of my 10 months at The Office Genie here are 10 of the support activities I do for our clients:

  1. Proof Reading
  2. Replying to emails and letters
  3. Designing and preparing personalised letter and email campaigns
  4. Updating databases and websites
  5. Raising contracts and invoices
  6. Taking and processing payments
  7. Advertising events on LinkedIn and Facebook
  8. Organising events - liaising with delegates, clients and venues
  9. Preparing paperwork i.e. quotations and function sheets
  10. Ensuring essential tasks/messages are not missed

On the marketing side of my job my list of 10 things looks a little different! It's just as varied and interesting and certainly keeps me on my toes, especially when you consider that much of these activities need to happen every day:

  1. Writing the odd blog and organising our guest bloggers
  2. New content for the website
  3. Facebook Page
  4. Twitter
  5. Linked In
  6. Online marketing
  7. Pay per click
  8. Facebook Ads
  9. Networking - both on and offline
  10. Devising new strategies

I still keep my hand in on the call handling side, and as you can imagine with those two To-Do lists I am certainly kept on my toes. I love my job and I work with a great team. If you would like to know more about the sorts of things we could help you with then please do call me on +44 (0) 845 901 1803 and I would love to chat with you about your business.

Until next time ...

More about Jenny Eaton ...

I love playing with words and I have dreamed of being a writer since I was a child. With a romantic idea of scribbling away in a cold attic room with my trusty fountain pen. I have always dabbled, but until now it’s not come to much.

When I started with The Office Genie it was to provide me with a part time income to support my writing. Over time though I have developed into the Marketing Genie on a full time basis. I love it, I get to play with words all day as I try to share the dream and the passion that Jacqui has turned into The Office Genie. My work involves blogging, letter writing, email writing, web copy writing, e-book writing, campaign planning, strategy planning, social media interactions – it’s like I write and talk all day every day, my parent would say it’s the ideal job for me!

My first blog posts were about my day to day life as a Genie but they are growing into sharing my view of the business world. I am passionate about helping small businesses be the best that they can be, standing out from their competition in the small things that come together to give an impression of great service – to find out how we can help you should call me on the number below.
