The Owlet And The Stars
Always aim for what inspires you ...

Inspired by Aesop's fables I wrote this story following a story time with my four year old son and an old episode of The West Wing. I know from my personal life what having a dream - something to aim for - really means ...
always aim for the stars, you never knows what you can achieve until you try
But these blogs are about business. So what are my thoughts? Every business needs goals and targets; it helps define what they are about and gives a focus. It stops you drifting away, giving in to distractions and reminds you of your core purpose.
Successful firms are ones where all the members of the team know where they fit in and how their role affects the grand scheme of things. If the goal is 24-hour delivery without fail, then stock controllers need to be sure there is stock, the order takers and fulfillers need to process the order efficiently and the delivery team ensuring they arrive on time. Each worker needs to take a pride in what they do to make sure the company's goal is met.
For small firms it is even more important to stick to the goal especially in times of economic slow down. It's important to stick to what you are doing and to know why you are doing it to drive yourself on when things get tough.
Coaches and mentors will tell you that having a definable, measurable goal is important. Even more so is a clear picture of what success looks like. Remembering what inspired you to start and who you wanted to be and clinging to that will see you through the long hard dark days.
The Eaton fable is "Always aim for the stars, you never knows what you can achieve until you try". I think for small businesses keeping focused on that which inspires you is truly important. I hope you enjoy listening to the fable in the video link above. Its read by my Dad!
Keep on dreaming and see where it takes you!
Until next time ...
I love playing with words and I have dreamed of being a writer since I was a child. With a romantic idea of scribbling away in a cold attic room with my trusty fountain pen. I have always dabbled, but until now it’s not come to much.
When I started with The Office Genie it was to provide me with a part time income to support my writing. Over time though I have developed into the Marketing Genie on a full time basis. I love it, I get to play with words all day as I try to share the dream and the passion that Jacqui has turned into The Office Genie. My work involves blogging, letter writing, email writing, web copy writing, e-book writing, campaign planning, strategy planning, social media interactions – it’s like I write and talk all day every day, my parent would say it’s the ideal job for me!
My first blog posts were about my day to day life as a Genie but they are growing into sharing my view of the business world. I am passionate about helping small businesses be the best that they can be, standing out from their competition in the small things that come together to give an impression of great service – to find out how we can help you should call me on the number below.
